Smyrna Bowling Center will be “college bowling central” for the next month, and it all starts with the 2013 Mid-South Conference Tournament – bowling tomorrow (Saturday), February 23rd – from 9:00am to 7:00pm. The Mid-South Conference features these schools from TN & KY:
Cumberland (TN) – Pikeville (KY) – Bethel (TN) – Campbellsville (KY) – St Catharine (KY) – Union (KY) – Lindsey Wilson (KY)
All of the teams will be bowling Baker-Style games (Bowler 1 rolls the 1st & 6th frames, Bowler 2 rolls the 2nd & 7th frames, etc), and will be in a double-elimination bracket. There is no charge to spectators, but seating/viewing room is very limited!
Smyrna is also the host to these other upcoming college events:
- 2013 USBC ITC Sectional Tournament – March 8-10, 2013
- 2013 NCAA Music City Classic Women’s Tournament – March 15-17, 2013
Good luck to all of the teams coming to bowl, and we encourage spectators to arrive early for best seating!
Local star and SBC’s own Kyle Barnes added to his resume and his wallet tonight at the lanes, as he rolled the first 29 strikes in-a-row in the Ultimate Cash Trios League before leaving a lone 10-pin, then struck out for an 879 series. This set tied the Tennessee state record for individual high series, held by Billy Moss of Nashville. He also hit all of the necessary frames to take home the current jackpot in the “Strike It Rich” contest, which was $6,425.00!
Kyle has won numerous awards as a youth and collegiate bowler. Barnes won State Titles with his Smyrna HS team in 2005 & 2006, and was also named “Mr Bowling” both those years. Also in 2006, Kyle won the $15,000 first place scholarship in the North Pointe Insurance Youth Singles Tournament in Minnesota. And then just two short years ago, he capped his collegiate career by winning the 2011 USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championship.
Kyle continues to bowl well in the adult ranks, as tonight’s performance showed. Congratulations Kyle Barnes!!
All youth leagues will be canceled today, and league will be extended one week to make up for today.
